Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Elk Grove Unified is hosting (English and Spanish) Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings for interested community members this fall. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an eight hour public education program, which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and most importantly – teaches individuals how to help a youth in crisis or experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.

February 23, 2019: STEM Event
This program aims to expose students to career options in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. With the continued expansion of the S.T.E.M workforce we need to ensure that young students are given the opportunity to learn about these rewarding career pathways. Event is held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Laguna Creek High School (9050 Vicino Drive, Elk Grove). February 2, 2019: Steps to College 2019 Event and Scholarship Opportunity
The Annual Steps to College education fair is the largest bilingual university fair in Northern California where representatives from colleges and universities from the United States and Mexico come together to provide student opportunities for admission; bilingual, hands-on training on the college admissions process; and information on how to easily access financial aid and scholarships. Event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Consulate General of Mexico (2093 Arena Boulevard, Sacramento).

2019 National Youth Science Camp - Deadline February 28, 2019
The CDE is pleased to announce applications are open for the 2019 National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) for high-achieving, science-oriented students. Operated by the National Youth Science Foundation, the NYSC is a residential science education honors program for two graduating high school students from each state. The NYSC is offered at no cost to participants. The deadline to apply is February 28, 2019. Find more details in this letter.

Your Local Rotary Speech Contest - Deadline February 28, 2019
Students can win up to $1000. Students must prepare a speech that’s between 5 to 8 minutes. The theme of the speech is “Be the Inspiration”. Contestants must be high school students in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12. All contestants must agree to speak at the semifinal and final
contest should they advance that far. Contest will take place on March 6, 2019 at 6:00 (doors close at 6:00), 8400 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove.

Outstanding Filipino Youth Awards (OFYA) - Deadline March 3, 2019
The Outstanding Filipino Youth Awards was established in 1990 by the Philippine National
Day Association (PNDA) as a recognition program. PNDA believes that the accomplishments of the young individual is not only a personal achievement but a contribution that advances the whole community. Through this program, PNDA recognizes our youth for their contributions, raising them up as role models to their peers.
